Alison, along with her husband, purchased a farm in 2010 which eliminated her dependence on grocery store sold food items. She and her husband grow their own food on the farm.

How did Alison Gannett discover that she had cancer?

The year was 2013. It was just a normal day for Alison jumping off cliffs and going about her usual adventurous life. But one random day just when she was posing to jump off a cliff for a ski film, she felt something weird happening to her.

Alison was unable to perceive the depth of the cliffs even after scanning the landing and the surrounding area multiple times.

She was unable to confirm whether the rock was a foot high or more than that. Alison felt weird because this was something she did regularly and that day she was unable to.

She thought maybe it's time for her to adorn glasses or maybe it was time for her to retire.

To finish the shoot, she reminded herself that she was the world champion and she can do this. With this faith, Alison jumped off the cliff.

These kinds of weird stuff started happening more frequently with her. Alison started finding mountain biking difficult. She was unable to tell the difference between a 6 feet drop and 6 inches drop.

Alison almost missed one of her biggest keynote speeches for Microsoft by forgetting to board the plane. Then when she finally boarded the plane and landed, she forgot that she had a speech to give. She had to be dragged to the stage and later, Alison had no memory of all these events.

Then on 28 June, 2013, she almost burned her farmhouse down while trying to make bacon. The flames were rising up to the ceiling and all she was doing was sit on the couch and look at the flames.

Luckily her husband came home at the right time. Alison was rushed to the hospital by her husband where the doctors discovered a malignant terminal tumor in her brain the size of a baseball.

The tumor was pressing on certain areas of her brain that was causing the improper functioning of her senses.

Alison was really amazed that she was alive all this time. The tumor was starting to press on the two main blood vessels that come into the brain. If the diagnosis would have been delayed by a few days, Alison might have lost her life to cancer.

How did Alison stumble upon the ketogenic diet?

In the early days of her life, Alison Gannett was a huge carbs eater. Then around 2010, she turned organic when she bought her own farm. Alison was growing and raising her own food and ate all organic. This was 4 years before cancer.

When she got diagnosed with cancer, Alison realized that whatever she was eating was not right. Alison needed to change. After reading the book Crazy, Sexy Cancer by author Kris Carr, Alison decided to turn full vegan.

What Alison didn’t realize while turning vegan is that the quantity of natural sugars in a vegan diet is really high. This led to a spike in her blood sugar levels.

She didn’t have any doctors at this point and was just grabbing at whatever anyone told was good against cancer. Alison was just handed a malignant tumor on a plate and she didn’t know what to do anymore.

Her doctors had given her just a year of living. But Alison didn’t want to end her journey by just going to intense radiation and chemo and then just waiting or death to take her.

She didn’t want that. It was after her failed vegan attempt that Alison came across Dr. Nasha Winters. Dr. Nasha is a ketogenic diet and cancer expert.

She provided Alison with the statistics that going on chemo will actually shorten her life. Dr. Nasha has had patients who survived 10 - 20 years longer than what they were told by oncologists.

Her approach is basically to look at the root causes of cancer and undo it one at a time. Alison loved this approach.

Alison went for training with Dr. Nasha. She found out that cancer is a complex disease and just switching to a ketogenic diet is not the key. Her family found a neurosurgeon in Colorado who agreed to perform surgery on her to remove cancer.

Alison was asked to take steroids prior to the surgery so that the swelling decreases a bit. But Alison now is well-versed that steroids contain a lot of sugars and she didn’t take them. Instead she stuck with something like Boswellia.

After the surgery, Alison was sent home to recuperate for at least 6 months. Later, she found out that the neurosurgeon didn’t remove a small tumor that was located by her right ear.

The tumor was supposedly malignant. Now Alison had to take precautions by herself to stop the remaining cancer from replicating. This is when Dr. Nasha put her on the ketogenic diet.

Why does the keto diet help against cancer?

Alison emphasizes on the fact that every cancer is different. While some cancers are driven by sugars, others are driven by estrogen while there are some driven by toxins available in the environment.

Since everyone’s body composition and blood work is different, there is no one good diet for cancer. But everybody with cancer needs to follow a diet that is anti-inflammatory in nature. And the keto diet does that.

Dr. Nasha is a biohacker and she completely relies on data and science to design her approach. She studied Alison’s blood work thoroughly before putting her on keto.

After starting keto, Alsion started seeing changes in her body. Cancer needs glucose to survive and since the ketogenic diet is low in carbohydrates, there was no glucose to aid cancer.

For several years after being diagnosed, Alison Gannett has been following a very therapeutic ketogenic diet in which she consumes higher amounts of fats and protein and very low carbohydrates. And Alison claims that she has been using keto to treat her terminal malignant brain cancer.

How the ketogenic diet changed Alison’s life and cancer?

Once she was put on the ketogenic diet, Alison consumed not more than 20 grams of carbohydrates. This yielded a blood sugar of 65 mg/dL while fasting and this was good for her. She started using the Keto-Mojo device that helped her to keep track of the glucose and ketones in her blood.

Click image for larger version Name:	ll3.jpg Views:	0 Size:	135.5 KB ID:	903

Alison also does her own research in analyzing how her blood sugar changes for certain foods.

For example, she discovers that consumption of anything with coconut spikes her blood sugar levels. Now for people who know keto, they will understand the irony in this.

Coconut flour is a recommended item to be consumed when you are on keto. But for Alison, it was like poison. This is a great example that goes on to show that there are no strict guideline or diet rules when it comes to this. Every person reacts differently to different foods. It’s their job to find that out.

Alison looks into 5 things that are the foundations for treating cancer. Three of those things necessary for therapeutic cancer are high beta-hydroxybutyrate or blood ketones, low glucose in blood serum, and high acetoacetate or breath ketones.

She emphasizes that just having one or two of the factors good is not an indication of all the three factors being perfect. SO it’s important that all three are monitored closely.

The fourth thing is to include high-quality organic food in your diet that is devoid of any toxins. The food you eat should be rich in antioxidants and polyphenols so that you can rebuild your healthy cells.

You should be aware of where the food you consume comes from. Alison grows her own food but we, on the other hand, can emphasize buying directly from local farmers instead of the corporates.

The fifth thing is the water source. Good clean water is very important since it is hard to get water without toxins nowadays. People should keep a check on the quality of the water they are drinking.

After she let go of her vegan diet, Alsion started eating meat as part of her keto diet. She reinforces that a person should tailor his/her diet as per the genetic variability. There are various genetic components that define what foods work best for a person.

Before fixating on a diet, it is important that the individual should look at the levels of calcium, heavy metals, vitamin D3, ferritin, etc. in his/her blood. For some, red meat can be beneficial but for others it may not. People need to clarify that before designing a particular diet for themselves.

Dr. Nasha was a big influence on Alison’s life. Her data-based approach opened Alison up to different issues that she was earlier unaware of. Issues that earlier didn’t show up in standard blood work.

While looking at MCHC, MCB, and MCH in the CNP and CBC blood work, you can ascertain if vitamins B6 and B12 are being absorbed by the cells or are they just floating around in your bloodstream.

Alison further adds that while looking at the DNA of people, the majority of them didn’t have a receptor for vitamin B12. This determines the type of B12 that an individual should be consuming. And this is just one example.

There are so many different things happening in your body that are defined by your DNA that you are unaware of!

In the case of Alison, she discovered that she had inherited certain genetic mutations such as the vitamin D3 receptor mutation along with the non-availability of enzymes that are responsible for processing folic acid.

Once she learned this, Alison went ahead and started taking L-Methylfolate every day to counter the same. It’s unbelievable but foods that were being commonly projected as anti-carcinogenic were actually causing cancer in Alison.

Foods like broccoli and kale are well-known anti-carcinogens. But they were actually harming Alison.

This shows the importance of knowing about the genetic composition of your own body.

There are so many chemical pathways involved that it turns very hard for an amateur person who doesn’t have much experience in this regard. This is the reason why a trained doctor or professional’s help is welcomed.

But there are not many doctors who function the way Dr. Nash does. Not many people work with the patient’s DNA analysis and blood work. They just refer to the common treatment, nothing customized.

Hence, Alison believes that the need of the hour is to train as many people and doctors to read the blood work and the DNA to achieve optimal results. Especially when it comes to ketogenic diet coaches, this should be made mandatory.

Chemotherapy and radiation take a toll on people. But for a common person, these are the only ways he knows. Hence, Alison’s family tried to talk her into accepting chemo.

But Alison had gone full into data mode. She started tracking her progress and created spreadsheets that she shared with her family. When they noticed the progress Alison was getting from her ketogenic regime, they stopped trying to get her to take chemo.

The spreadsheets depicted that Alison’s cells were witnessing mitochondrial repair, her inflammation was going down, her kidneys were getting better, the blood sugar was in control, and her leaky gut problem was healing. Even Alison’s doctors were amazed at the progress.

Alison also stopped doing PET scans as they freaked her out. She stuck to using thermograms to identify if there were any new cancer growths anywhere in her body.

Although Alison came to the aid of the ketogenic diet for her cancer, it eventually started treating a myriad of health problems in her body that doctors had earlier remarked as being irreversible.

For example, Alison had breast fibrosis, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. Keto helped her to overcome these as well. Such is the power of the ketogenic diet.

As is well-known, keto was first started to treat epilepsy in kids. That’s how the diet came into existence. After personally experiencing the positive effects that keto can bring to your body, Alison is determined that keto can be used to not only just treat cancer, but also almost all the other diseases that exist.

The key is to remain determined and not go back to your old lifestyle of loading up on carbohydrates. Because, in that case, cancer will definitely come back. This has actually happened with many people.

Alison closely monitors her blood sugar spikes while eating any new food. She takes a few bites and checks if the food has not led to any sudden spikes. If yes, then she gets rid of that food item.

She argues that the foods that cause a spike in her blood sugar might not cause the same effect on someone else. It’s a matter of their own DNA and mutations. So there is no rule-of-thumb here. Everybody needs to find their own foods that work for them.

She further goes on to explain that all healthy human beings have cancerous cells in their body.

The stem cells we have produces 500-2000 cancer cells on a daily basis but it's what we practice on a daily basis that determines whether those cells get the chance to replicate and give birth to a disease.

We should refrain from providing these cancer cells with any opportunities that would lead them to multiply and grow into a mass. And the way to do it is to keep your glucose and blood sugar levels in check.

Get rid of toxic food. Stay away from processed food. Always go for fresh organic produce.

And if you want to be a bit strict with yourself, then take up the ketogenic diet.

What other factors to consider other than the diet?

If you are diagnosed with cancer, there are many other factors that you need to take into account apart from a healthy diet. You need to have a good mental state and happiness in your life. You need to tackle your emotional barriers and distresses.

Alison did the same. She now believes that to deal with cancer there should be some kind of similar process that helps people to deal with their insecurities and traumas from the past.

Keeping fit is another factor but this comes with a twist. Four months after her surgery, Alison started working out and going for runs. Her doctors were against this, even Dr. Nasha. And they were right.

There were large spikes of blood sugar and inflammation in her blood results. The reason being that when you work out, you produce lactic acid in your muscles - the feeling of soreness that one witnesses after a workout. This lactic acid then turns to sugar.

So now, Alison does only moderate workouts keeping her heart rate below 100. She recommends people not to over-do their exercises.

Is the ketogenic diet for weight loss the same as the ketogenic diet for cancer?

Alison cannot stretch enough that they are not the same. Not every ketogenic coach can provide a ketogenic approach for cancer as well. Although they are both keto, the fat quantity is different in both.

For cancer, the fat amount has to be 85% or higher and should include a myriad of organic fresh vegetables in your diet. The aim here is to rebuild a healthy body or go back to a healthy life.

Alison Gannett is a true warrior. Through her deep research and studies, she has been able to keep her cancer from growing. Alsion refers to the cancer that was left from being operated near her right ear as Junior.

So whenever she craves carbohydrates, Junior works as a reminder for her to stick to her low-carb and high-fat diet. Alison wishes to share all that she learned with the world.
