    Any self-respecting nutritionist knows that the health benefits of fruit are undeniable. Well..., not that he/she knows and FEELS it. Rather, the word “learned and trained” is appropriate for the fact about the benefits of fruit.

    So, you and I have also absorbed this because it is spoken about since childhood in all sources of information — from the radio to the Internet.

    Therefore, fruit is always " green light” on the table in any quantities. But do we know all about fruit? Is fruit good for everyone?

    Let's put aside all our "trained" beliefs today and look at fruits from a common-sense point of view.

    The meaning of fruit in nature

    Let's start with plants. What are fruits to them? Plants create fruit to increase their chances of reproducing.

    First, fruits are the shell and receptacle of plant seeds. On the one hand, it protects the seeds from some natural predators — bacteria, fungi, and insects.

    On the other hand, mature flesh of the fruit will feed the seed when it finally decides to germinate. Do not forget the perfectly round shape of many fruits. When they fall from trees, it gives them the opportunity to roll away from the parent tree and take over new territory.

    Second, plants have learned to interact with animals to spread seeds even more. The seeds of plants are protected by a powerful shell, so plants are not afraid that their future children, enclosed in fruit, are eaten by animals.

    Undigested seeds will be discarded later from the gut in new territories, away from the parent tree. Plants even contribute to this in every possible way:

    1. Smell. The fruit has a flavor that attracts the animal when it does not see the fruit yet. Remember the smell of the fruit section. Do you like it? That's it.

    2. Bright color. Mature fruits have bright, juicy colors that attract attention among the monotonous green foliage.

    3. Bright, sweet taste. Sweetness speaks of carbohydrates. It is believed to be the preferred fuel for the brain. The sweet taste receptors are located at the very tip of the tongue. This speeds up the rapid check of food for the presence of sugar.

    The monkey's tongue transmitted information about the sweet taste to the brain and it gave the command to eat it. And as much as possible.

    Intelligent people react to fruit in the same way that non-intelligent monkeys and other fruit-eating animals do.

    And if in the case of fruit-eating animals, this reaction leads to survival and prosperity, in the case of modern omnivores, this is only a problem. Here the plants are once again enslaved the people, as it once did wheat.

    Fruit and metabolism: a bad joke

    Why fruit doesn't saturate

    In terms of nutrients, fruits are sources of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates = sugar. You should also know that carbohydrates cause the largest release of insulin in the blood compared to proteins and fats.

    Insulin not only stores nutrients but also regulates appetite. Perhaps this is the most powerful stimulator of desire to eat of those that make your body.

    Maybe you don't see it yet, but when you eat sweet, honey-like fruits, a physiological sequence is formed. When you eat fruit, you supply your body with carbohydrates.

    The body responds to them with insulin — it warms up the appetite. You eat the fruit again and everything repeats itself… And where is the end of this, where is the saturation?

    You can stop with an effort of will. Wait 30-60 minutes until your appetite calms down. But ... we live once, don't we? And the fruit is so delicious… And doctors say fruits are useful.

    This is not eating too much candy! So, if you do not show awareness, you will eat fruit until you fill your stomach with plant matter. To the point of heaviness and discomfort.

    Especially if you are prone to carbohydrate dependence. I bet that's happened in your life, hasn't it? Thanks to carbohydrates, an axiom applies to fruits:

    The more fruit you eat, the more fruit you eat…

    And this is only half the answer to the question "why don't fruits saturate?". The second half lies in a cruel misconception about the biological value of fruit. If we soberly weigh the actual content of essential nutrients in fruits, they will take an honorable 11th place in the rating.

    Being poor on nutrients and rich in sugar is the perfect formula for gluttony. Not getting the right micronutrients, a person eats more food to get the norm. Let's make a simple comparison with the representative of the first line of the rating — the liver.

    Compare the liver with any fruit. I think the emptiness of fruit is obvious. To eat 2 lbs of apples or peaches in a couple of hours? Very easy! To eat 2 lbs of the liver in an evening? Incredibly complex. The difference in biological value is to blame.

    Are fruits completely edible?

    Despite the sweetness and emptiness for good, fruits are still so rich in some things! Namely - antinutrients. These include oxalates, lectins, phytic acid, enzyme inhibitors, saponins, and many others. Most fruits are particularly rich in salicylates: Intolerance to salicylates

    Fiber, by the way, is also an anti-nutrient. It has no real functions in the human body. It inhibits the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and irritates the intestines, like other antinutrients. An article about fiber will soon appear on the site.

    Do not forget about fructose. It is much sweeter than regular sugar. It has a toxic effect on the liver and kidneys. Fructose is a deadly enemy of diabetics and gout.

    But fruit is nature!

    “What nature has done can be eaten! You said so yourself!” - This argument I get from those who do not have enough arguments for an adequate restriction of fruit in the diet.

    And it is true — fruits were made by nature. But not those that are currently available to the consumer. Those fruits and vegetables that we see now on the shelves are made by man.

    Years of selection, selection by the necessary criteria. Hybridization of different species. Genetic engineering in recent years. All this has led to the appearance of ideal fruits - not in terms of benefits and health but in terms of business, sales, logistics and maximum profit.

    In comparison with wild originals, modern fruits have a hundred times enhanced taste. Super-resistant to diseases and damage. They are the perfect shape and size.

    They contain even more carbohydrates. And even less of other nutrients than the ancestors, because they grow on depleted soils.

    Just look at what the original fruits made by nature look like. Compared to human-made fruits, they are poor. Non-greasy, pale, less taste, and aroma. Somehow you don't want to buy, right?

    To deliver exotic fruits to customers, they need to be processed with various substances. For safety on the road. It is not difficult to guess that most of them are poisonous and can penetrate the flesh of the fruit.

    The argument "fruit is safe because it is made by nature" only applies to those growing seasonally. Without human intervention. And then antinutrients have not been canceled.

    The essence of modern fruit: is there a real health benefit ?

    Taking into account all the above arguments, it is fair to put modern fruits from the supermarket on the same shelf with cakes, sweets, and other vulgar sweets:

    1. Both are created by man to please another person and bring maximum buzz to one person and profit to another.

    2. Both are empty for benefit and meaning.

    3. Both contain toxic substances that poison a person. Fruits: antinutrients, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides. Sweets: trans fats, flavor enhancers, flavorings, and other synthetics.

    As a result, modern fruits are the same achievements of the food industry as all other sweets. Of course, there are a little more trace elements, there are antioxidants, there are no trans fats. But in the dry balance, they do not represent what nutritionists paint them as — a storehouse of health.

    The World Health Organization recommends 5 to 10 servings of fruit per day. It is difficult to say how many oz (grams) are in one serving. Approximately 2.8 - 3.5 oz (80-100 g). This is 14-35 oz (400-1000 g) of fruit per day. This is 4.2-10 oz (120-300 grams) of fruit alone…

    But they also recommend cereals, bread, and pasta... Given that the modern average person is chronically ill for most of their life, I don't see the benefit of these recommendations. Also, the benefits of fruit for human health are questionable. At least, created by man himself.

    Common sense and fruit

    It's not so bad, because now you are informed and can make an informed choice. Man is omnivorous, so there is definitely a place for fruit in his diet.

    Taking into account all that I have told you today, I will recommend some rules that will help you with regard to adequate fruit consumption.

    1. Fruits should be eaten only when they are ripe. Without seeds. And you need to peel them. So you reduce the load of anti-nutrients and industrial toxins.

    2. Recipes for traditional crops imply pre-processing of fruit before consumption. Fermentation, drying, baking, and many others.

    3. As little exotic as possible. I advise you to eat only those fruits that grow seasonally in your native land. Your ancestors fed on them. Your genes are already more or less familiar with them. It is more likely that you are adapted to them evolutionarily. The more exotic the fruit, the more problems it can cause. Bananas in winter in New-York are not the norm.

    4. Exceptions. Unsweetened fruits like lemon and avocado can be consumed a little more often than the rest.

    5. Who exactly should avoid fruit - when to reduce fruit to 0:

    – Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, prediabetes, overweight, low muscle mass

    – Angina, atherosclerosis, varicose veins, gout

    – Autoimmune diseases: thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis and the like

    – Skin problems: eczema, psoriasis and similar

    In these cases, it is better to reduce fruit until the problem disappears completely, and then gradually return it, while maintaining awareness. I recommend methods based on the principle of elimination.

    6. Quantity. The sicker you are and the lower your quality of life, the less fruit you should eat. If you are overweight, have insulin resistance, a large waistline, brain fog, obese liver, gout, or autoimmune problems, I recommend limiting fruit to a minimum. And even up to their complete absence.
